Personal Data We Collect

When you create an account or use the Service, we may collect:

• Account information: email address, username, and password (hashed).
• Chess.com data: your Chess.com username and publicly available game data (PGN files, ratings, game history) that you authorize us to import via the Chess.com API.
• Payment information: processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details. Stripe may store your payment information in accordance with their own privacy policy.
• Usage data: pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system.

How We Use Your Data

We process your personal data for the following purposes:

• Providing the Service: importing your chess games, analyzing positions with Stockfish, generating training reports, puzzles, scouting reports, and Temple Cards.
• Managing your account and subscription.
• Processing payments via Stripe.
• Communicating with you about your account, service updates, and password resets.
• Improving the Service through aggregated, anonymized usage analysis.
• Fraud prevention and security.

Chess Game Analysis

When you import your Chess.com games, we store the game data (PGN, moves, results) and analyze each position using the Stockfish chess engine. This analysis generates move evaluations, accuracy statistics, puzzle positions, and performance metrics. This data is stored in our database and used to provide you with insights, training reports, and personalized puzzles.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Chess.com API: to import your publicly available game data at your request.
• Stripe: for payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment data. See stripe.com/privacy.
• Hetzner: for server hosting (located in the EU).

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising or remarketing.

Cookies and Local Storage

Chess Temple uses browser local storage (not traditional cookies) to store your authentication token and user preferences. This is essential for the Service to function. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

Stripe may set cookies when processing payments. See Stripe's cookie policy for details.

Data Security

We take appropriate measures to protect your data:

• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage.
• Authentication uses JSON Web Tokens (JWT) transmitted over HTTPS.
• Data is stored on secure servers within the EU.

While we use reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
• Object to processing of your data.
• Request portability of your data in a machine-readable format.
• Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) or your local data protection authority.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
